RPA for Smart Logistics

Metso Outotec is the frontrunner in sustainable technologies, end-to-end solutions, and services for the minerals processing, aggregates, and metals refining industries globally. The company with its headquarters in Finland has complex inbound and outbound Supply Chains covering 50+ countries. The business focus is seamless Logistics processes which have been improved with an RPA project in 2020. The project goal was to automate the SAP Sales Order release process by adding the forwarding agent information and removing the delivery blocks. The implemented RPA selects the cheapest Logistics Service Provider based on the SAP Sales Order information (total weight, delivery priority, origin country, destination country) and the provided business rules and exceptions (e.g. nominated LSPs for the specific routes). The UiPath solution was built in a few months during the pandemic last year. The RPA was deployed in June 2020 and has become the top-performing robot in the Logistics process area.
