Scott A. Helmers

Biography

Scott A. Helmers is a Partner at the Harvard Computing Group, a software and consulting firm that assists clients with understanding and implementing business process solutions. He is a co-inventor of TaskMap, a Visio add-in that allows anyone to document, analyze, and improve their business processes. Scott has worked with clients in ten countries on projects involving process mapping and redesign, knowledge management, and technology training.

Scott has been named a Microsoft Valuable Professional (MVP) for Visio every year since 2008, one of only six people in the world to hold that distinction. He is a course author for LinkedIn Learning, a Senior Instructor with Netmind, and is the author of four books from Microsoft Press, including Visio 2016 Step by Step.

Automating Process Maps: Enter Data in Excel and Watch Visio Create the Diagram

RPA is great for automating the steps in a work process but doesn’t help you define the process. What if you could also automate creation of a process map and then use that map to create process automation? Data Visualizer, part of Visio Plan 2, is the key to building flowcharts automatically from data in Excel. Once Data Visualizer has created the diagram it maintains a dynamic connection to the data – make changes in one and they are synced to the other. It’s also possible to work entirely within Excel and create a Visio diagram without needing a Visio license! After this session you’ll be equipped to let Visio do most of the work for you when you need to create process diagrams.

You will learn to:
• Launch Data Visualizer in Visio to create a flowchart or swimlane diagram automatically
• Sync changes from diagram to data or data to diagram
• Create a Visio diagram in Excel without needing Visio
